Swollen gums
Swollen or bleeding gums may be a matter of simple irritation, or it could indicate a systemic disease. It may have to do with: liver disorders, kidney disorders, arterial or capillary diseases, diabetes, or heart disorder; or it can also be a sign that you are at risk of, or already have, gum disease such as periodontitis. Persistent gum bleeding may also be due to serious medical conditions such as leukaemia or haemophilia. It may also have to do with hormonal changes during pregnancy, or because of deficiency of Vitamin K or C. Il-fitting dentures too can cause swollen gums.
